Welsh Junior Open Champtionships - 24/07/10
The WKC sent a small squad to this tournament held at the National sports centre at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Cameron Price and James Huggins were first up in the under 10 year’s boys kata. Both are relatively new to competition and the category was one of the largest of the tournament. Cameron made it through to the last 16 and James was unable too progress far but we were not disappointed by their efforts. Nathan Jones found himself in the tough 10-12 yrs boys’ kata group, against boys of much higher grades. Again Nathan looked good but could not make it to the medals.
Holly Huggins, aged 10 years was in the 10-12 years girls’ kata. Her work on the higher kata’s with Sensei Alice paid off as she didn’t drop a flag on her way to achieve gold.
Rhys Adey and Richard Huggins were in the 13-15 years boys’ kata. Rhys has only just returned to training after recovering from a shoulder injury. His experience and recent training took him through to the final to win his second Welsh title of the year. Richard came away with a bronze medal.
Richard Huggins was the WKC sole kumite entrant. He was in the boys under 14yrs, under 55 kg groups. He put in a very creditable performance but was unable to progress through the rounds.
Well done to everyone!
